GCSE Tutoring for Year 11 | Summer 2027 Exams

Year 11 · Exams summer 2027

Your Year 11 Has About 30 Lessons Left Before Their GCSEs.

Not months. Lessons. Once you take out half terms, Christmas and Easter, that is what stands between now and the exam hall.

How Our GCSE Tuition Works

A short introduction to how we teach GCSE English, maths and science, and what to expect from a term with us.

The number that matters

Count the Teaching Weeks, Not the Months

“June” sounds like ages away. It is not, and the working deadline is far closer than June anyway.

The real deadline

It Is Not June. It Is the Mocks.

Most families act in January, once mock results come home. By then the most useful term of the year has already gone.

1

Mocks Land in November and December

Roughly ten weeks from now. They are the first full sitting of real papers your child has ever done.

2

Mocks Set the Predicted Grades

Schools use mock performance to decide the grades they predict. Those predictions are what your child applies with.

3

Predictions Decide Sixth Form Offers

Sixth forms and colleges make offers on predicted grades, and most applications close in the autumn and winter of Year 11.

4

January Is Too Late to Change Them

By the time a disappointing mock grade arrives, the applications are largely done and a term of teaching has passed.

Work backwards from the mocks and you have about ten weeks, not nine months.

The thing most parents do not know

A Grade 3 Is Not One Grade Off. It Is Another Year of the Subject.

This is government funding policy, not our opinion, and it is the strongest practical reason to act on English and maths now.

Any student who leaves Year 11 without a grade 4 or above in English or maths must keep studying that subject after 16, as a condition of their college or sixth form funding.

A full-time student who finishes on a grade 3 is judged closest to a pass, so they must study towards the GCSE itself rather than an easier alternative, alongside their A levels or BTEC. Students at grade 2 or below can work towards Functional Skills Level 2 instead. For a full-time student it means 100 hours of timetabled teaching a year, in each subject not yet passed, on top of everything else they have chosen to do.

So the gap between a 3 and a 4 is not a single grade on a slip of paper. It is one or two more years of a subject your child thought they had finished, taught alongside the courses they actually want to be doing.

Closing a 3 into a 4 this year buys back two years of your child’s sixth form.

What we do differently

Year 11 Tutoring Is Not More of School

Your child already gets five lessons a week of each subject. Repeating that louder achieves nothing.

✗
We do not re-teach the whole syllabusThere is not time, and most of it is already secure. Re-teaching everything is how a year gets wasted.
✗
We do not set endless past papersPapers without proper marking and correction just rehearse the same mistakes.
✓
We find where the marks are actually goingThe assessment shows exactly which topics and which question types are costing your child grades.
✓
We teach to the mark schemeMost lost marks in English and the sciences are technique, not knowledge. Examiners reward specific things, and those things are teachable.
✓
We fix the top three problems firstRanked by marks available. The fastest grade movement always comes from a small number of repeated errors.
✓
We mark written work properly, every weekReal feedback on real answers. Writing marking is also available on its own at £19 a session.

The Questions Year 11 Parents Ask

Is It Too Late to Start Now?
No, but it is the last comfortable moment. Thirty weekly lessons is enough to move a grade, sometimes two, if the work is targeted. Starting in January halves that, and by Easter you are choosing which paper to rescue.
My Child Says They Are Fine. Are They?
Possibly. The assessment settles it in an hour, against real grade boundaries rather than a feeling. Plenty of families come away told their child is on track and does not need us.
They Are Predicted a 5. Is That Good Enough?
Grade 4 is the standard pass and grade 5 the strong pass, but many sixth forms ask for 6s or 7s in the subjects a student wants to take at A level. It depends entirely on what they want to do next, which is part of what the feedback call is for.
Which Subjects and Exam Boards Do You Cover?
English Language, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, across AQA, Edexcel and OCR. We teach the specification your child’s school actually uses.
How Much Time Will This Take on Top of School?
One session a week per subject, plus the work we set. We are deliberately careful about the total load in Year 11, because an exhausted student does not perform.
What Does It Cost?
£140 a month for one subject, £225 for two and £290 for three. One-to-one is £40 an hour and writing marking is £19 a session. Because we are Ofsted registered you can pay through Tax-Free Childcare and childcare vouchers, with the government contributing towards the fees, and sibling discounts are 10% for a second child and 15% for a third on group places.
What If You Tell Us the Grade Cannot Be Moved?
Then we will say so on the feedback call, and tell you what we think would help instead. We would rather lose the booking than take money for something we cannot deliver.
