11 Plus preparation for Year 5 the year that determines outcomes
If your child is currently in Year 5, their 11 Plus examination is approaching fast. Most grammar school tests are taken in September or October of Year 6. This is the year to intensify preparation, sharpen exam technique and build the kind of confidence that only comes from being genuinely ready.
Year 5 the most important year in 11 Plus preparation
Year 5 is the year that determines outcomes. The Kent Test is sat in September of Year 6 just 12 months from the start of Year 5 and grammar schools across Sutton, Bexley and South East London test in the same autumn window. Independent school assessments can begin even earlier. The families who arrive at those exams with confident, prepared children are the ones who treated Year 5 with the seriousness it deserves.
Our Year 5 programme intensifies preparation across all four subjects, with an increasing focus on past papers, timed work, mock exams and exam technique. For children who have been with us since Year 4, this is where all that foundation-building pays off. For children joining us in Year 5, we will assess on arrival and prioritise the areas that need the most attention building quickly toward the level required for your child’s target schools.
Here is what the preparation journey looks like from today to exam day.

Intensify across all four subjects. Increase past paper work. Identify and close any remaining gaps from Year 4.
January Year 5

September Year 6
